BOAR & BARRA
We offer one-week packages, which include fully guided 5-day hunts for a maximum of 6 persons in the Aboriginal Reserve of Western Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia. Day 1 and day 7 are for travelling purposes, so there is no charge for these travelling days.
The animals we have available are wild boar. We do not take sows or little ones. If you’d like to take a look at the quality of the animals on offer, please visit our galleries where you will find photos of animals taken in the last 12 months together with the accommodation and the spectacular scenic views that you may expect to see in Western Arnhem Land.
All touring is conducted on 4x4 All Terrain Vehicles (ATV Rhinos and Quad Bikes). You will explore many billabong and river systems, beautiful scenic floodplains with an abundance of native bird life and awe inspiring panoramic views from the escarpments overlooking kilometres of breathtaking scenery.
All our ATV’s are fully equipped and very manageable, even for the novice rider. We use the 4x4 ATV’s daily from base camp to explore the diversity of the terrain.
Once we reach a specific location, we continue our hunt with a leisurely under-canopy walk amongst paperbark and tropical palm jungles – guaranteed to get the adrenalin pumping!
In the evenings, especially during the months of June and July, we can also do some spotlighting, which many of my clients find very exciting.
We also have a second camp that is ideally suited for an overnight hunt, for which we depart from base camp before lunch and return in the afternoon of the following day.
You may be interested in fishing for our world-famous barramundi. The best months for fishing are August, September, October and November as, during the cooler months of June and July, the fish tend to go off the bite.
Early September through November is also our waterfowl season for ducks and geese. Fishing and waterfowl hunting are available in season upon request.
You may also choose to enjoy a scenic flight over Western Arnhem Land and the Northern Territory in a Helicopter. We currently run helicopter flights for the following:
These helicopter scenic flights are very popular with our groups of corporate clients and can be arranged at any time during the course of the tour.
You will see from our galleries that you would be staying in a fully-equipped house with all the mod-cons and all linen is supplied.
Many of our clients choose to charter a light aircraft or helicopter for a 1-hour scenic flight to our airstrip in Western Arnhem Land, with a return flight on day 7. Details of the charter companies are available under Getting Here.
Alternatively, we can pick you up from your hotel in Darwin early (6.00am) on Day 1 and it would be a 6-7 hour drive to base camp in air conditioned Landcruisers, with the return journey arriving at your hotel in Darwin between 5 pm – 9 pm on day 7.
Our Boar & Barra safari package includes all road transfers, permits, insurance, accommodation, trophy fees, use of a Yamaha ATV Rhino or Quad Bike, all meals and beverages, but alcohol is “Bring Your Own”.
We have a special liquor permit to allow the consumption of alcohol by our clients at our camps in Arnhem Land. However, all alcohol must be carried in by road by an employee of Tropical Hunting Safaris.
We can supply .270 and .308 scoped rifles and ammunition for a small additional cost.
On the evening of your arrival at camp, you will be given a firearms and ATV safety course, after which you will be required to sign an indemnity form prior to commencement of the tour. |
